Livestrong Austin,TX 2007-
We kicked off the 2007 Livestrong fundraising yesterday, July 7, 2007. The team of Bici Blu has grown by one more member and currently includes Myself, Glenn Saltzer, David Derosa, and Zac Marti. This year zac has pledged to raise funds and train for the 100 mile ride in Austin on Octber 12-14th.

As a team we hope to add up to 4 more members and to raise $10,000 for Cancer survivors.
I started the kickoff with press releases to the Waterbury Republican and the Voices Newspapers. We will start the fundraising with an email campaign while trying to procure a corporate sponsor. We will also work to host dinner parties in clients homes to raise money from donations.

Anyone interested in Joining the Bici Blu Cycle team can contact me at RM@CM-InteriorDesign.com. Donations can be made at http://austin07.livestrong.org/ramartijr

I will post the training schedule here shortly.

Training Ride 8-19-2006

Today was an awesome ride. David, Glenn and I rode here in Middlebury, Down Rt 64 into Woodbury, Left onto Route 6 in Woodbury toward Southbury, Left on Old Waterbury Road ( whew! what a hill!) toward 84 Exit 15, then left onto 188 back toward Middlebury.

It was the first time that I pushed Glenn a little harder not by pushing harder, but rather by spinning easier and at a faster cadence. We averaged about 14 miles per hour which is a good improvement over our past rides considering we had some great hills.

We have been using Garmin GPS units to track our progress toward the Century for the Livestrong foundation. I highly recommend these units. Glenn uses the 305 ( I wish I had one!) The 305 measures and tracks your heart rate and cadence. Both are great features to track when you are measureing your progress. I am using the 205. It is a nice unit but lacks the Heart rate and Cadence features.

We will be riding 100 miles to raise $ for cancer survivors in Philladelphia, PA on September 10th 2006.

If you are interested in joining us, please drop me a note here.

Richard

Mountain Biking in Moab

The grandeur of Open spaces.

I am a biker and I cant think of a better place to be that in the red rock, switchback, open sky solitude of Moab, Utah. To Ride through Canyon Lands and Arches National Parks would bring me back to feeling like a kid again. Back to innocent days where a kid with his bike felt like he could travel the world. ( The world seems so much smaller then!)

At 43, the chance to ride in the wide open spaces of Moab would open up the world again to that little boy inside.

LiveSTRONG-

I am proud to be involoved in the LiveSTRONG ride series. Last year I rode a century ( 100 miles) for the first time. It was an awesome experience to train, raise money and complete an ambitious physical goal. This year 2006, I will be riding in Philly, Pa in another Century. This time with some more agressive goals. I have started a team and our team goal is to raise $20, 000.00 for cancer survivors. ( People who not only survive, but live and thrive despite their disease. )

I hope you will join me in my efforts. You can join the team and help in many ways from walking running or riding in the event, raising funds, or simply donating a few dollars. Whatever you decide, I am sure it will make you feel good to be a part of.

Here is how you can help:

Rise to the Challenge

Ride (10, 40, 70 or 100 miles): Participate in the LAF’s signature cycling event inspired by Lance Armstrong ($50 registration fee and a $500 fundraising minimum).
